Stop Trying To Shrink, It’s Time To Be Strong
Be happy with what you have, whilst also working towards what you want.
There is a balance that I am always working towards navigating.
I particularly see this conflict in women, and indeed myself when it comes to the area of the body.
Being someone who in the past has never really felt good in my body.
Always feeling self-conscious and wanting to cover my belly with baggy tops, have always felt ‘bigger’ than I wanted to be.
Even at the height of my fitness when I was teaching up to 30 hours of fitness per week, I look back and can’t remember once feeling truthfully happy with the way my body looked. Even when I look back at old pics I’m left thinking ‘if only I looked like that now’….sigh!!
Over recent years I have done a lot of work on my mindset as I finally decided I was going to stop making myself feel like shit because of the way my body looked.
Self and body acceptance can be liberating. It allows for more freedom, more fun, more enjoyment in life. I have come a long way in accepting my body, loving the fact my body can do amazing things.
BUT it’s not always easy.
Despite all of the work that I have done on myself, I still get those moments of self-judgement.
When I look in the mirror and attempt to love my handles and squishy wrinkly tummy, and then in reality wish it wasn’t there.
Then judging myself (because I just had the thought off not liking what I see), because I have worked hard on this self-love thing, I’m not supposed to feel that way!!! Argh!!!!
As much as anyone perpetuates the self-love and body positivity movement, I think we all have these moments.
And that’s ok, its part of being human.
It’s not about never having those thoughts or feelings, and it’s far more about how you choose to respond to them.
The more you focus in on the self-judgement and criticism you place on yourself, the more likely you are to bunk off that workout and end up in a tub of Ben & Jerries. And so the cycle persists.
How much of your life have you spent hating on yourself?!?! Argh wouldn’t life be easier, wouldn’t we all be happier if we could just stop doing that??
And that’s what I’m on a mission to help more women with.
It’s where things have really changed for me in recent years.
I now focus less on wanting to shrink my body and more on wanting to strengthen it. To use those moments when you notice you don’t feel good, to do something positive about it because you know you are worthy of feeling good about yourself
This has also caused me to have big shift in the tools that I share with my clients too. I know that all of my experiences have been there to help me become a better coach. Because of this I have recently re-worked the entire Online Better Body coaching programme to include more of the mindset piece to support my clients.
I’m all for helping you to create change in your life and with your body, but if it’s going to be lasting, sustainable and for you to feel truly and deeply happy with your body and your life, it simply has to come from a place of love.
You cannot hate yourself thinner, it will just make you even more miserable. And you are so much more than how your body looks, life is so much more than how your body looks.
So yes you can want to improve your health, fitness, the way you feel in your skin.
But please STOP making yourself feel like shit in the process.
When you feel the calls from your body and inspiration/motivation strikes roll with those moments and go with it.
And for the times when motivation is failing you, rely on your established base habits for health.
You don’t have to be skinny for people to like you.
You don’t have to be thin to be accepted
You don’t have to be able to see your abs to have worth and value in the world
You can want to work on your health and fitness because it will give you more energy to keep up with the pace of your amazing vibrant life.
You DO get to be physically strong because it makes you feel like an unstoppable badass
When you feel fit and healthy it has an uncanny way of having a knock on effect in other areas of your life too.
So stop focusing on shrinking, and instead focus on leveling up the way you want to feel
And this is exactly what we support you with Online Better Body Coaching!
