I come from a health and wellness background, I have been learning on and teaching fitness for all of my adult life, it’s been a monumental part of my life and my life’s work. Everything I study and learn about eventually comes back to the body and this is why it’s my number one habit for happy people.
Yet all too often we take our bodies and our health for granted, and don’t always treat it with the loving care that it deserves. We assume that it will function as it’s supposed to right up until that time that it doesn’t. Your body is an incredible and complex organism but taking care of it doesn’t have to be as hard as we usually make it out to be.
Don’t wait until your body decides to give up before you make the decision to start taking a little better care of it. Our bodies are always trying to communicate with us and so a huge part of takinging control to become the boss of your body starts with listening to those often very subtle signals.
Though the topic of this challenge is HAPPINESS, so see that It’s harder to be happy if you are low on energy, constantly tired, your body aches, hurts and you struggle to keep up with the pace of your life when you are an ambitious woman with a super busy life. If you want to continue to grow and expand on your goals your body needs to be able to keep up with you. I
If you want a happy life, then having a happy healthy body is an important component that shouldn’t be overlooked
People who workout and care about what they eat tend to be happier. We have all seen the quotes and memes that physical activity is the best antidepressant there is, yet it’s massively underused. You can’t help but feel good after doing a workout. And it doesn’t have to be the type of go hard or go home workout, just getting an increase in your blood flow by going for a walk, a bike ride, a swim can all have an effect on your positive well being. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind, that eating a healthy balanced diet, sleeping well and moving your body regularly will help you feel good and keep your body and mind happier. I know it from my own experience I am in such a better mood and state of mind when I have got some movement into my day.
If we can take the stress and pressure off wanting to ‘look’ a certain way (the way most of the diet and fitness industry will pray on you) and instead placing it on using diet and nutrition to help you ‘feel’ a certain way (to feel happy that is) then there is a huge shift in you WANT to exercise and fuel your body with good foods instead of feeling like you HAVE to.
The other week I got a message from one of my coaching clients who shall remain nameless as I know she doesn’t like to make a fuss, BUT she deserves a massive shout out becuase I am so darn proud of her. She has lost almost 2 stone since working with me and in her own words:
And that is the BIG shift. When you feel good about the process, rather than feeling tired, hungry and with a body that hurts like hell all the time, then it’s far easier to keep going with that.
Que the feeling of happiness, pride and satisfaction.
I want to share with you what it truly means to have a healthy body that works to serve and give you all the energy you need to live your most amazing life. We only get one body in this lifetime and I want you help you feel more in tune and be able to support your amazing body with more ease and finally feeling in control and comes from a place of love. Afterall you cannot hate yourself skinny, it simply doesn’t work.
So I now want you to look at where you are right now in terms of being the boss of your own body. On a scale of 1-10 of having the body to look and feel the way you want, it’s ability to perform how you want it to, to have the energy for you to keep up with the demands of your life, where are you at?
Are your drinking lots of plain fresh water? When it comes to a healthy lean body, adequate hydration is one of the simplest tools to up energy and increase weight loss. I know it sounds too simple, yet many people are living with chronically dehydrated bodies.
Are you eating healthy nutritious foods. Food is something that we all get a little bit hung up on, but start with one thing at a time. Eat less highly processed and junk foods and add in more fresh vegetables, start making more of your foods from scratch. If you are just starting out, keep it super simple, check out my range of healthy cook books HERE if you need some help getting started. These recipes are super simple, quick to prepare without needing tonnes of crazy ingredients. Like I said start small, keep it simple, you can expand your cooking repertoire as you get more comfortable with fitting cooking into your routines.
Start being more mindful about the foods you eat, slow down your eating, notice what foods you are choosing and if you are choosing them for their nutritional value or are your choosing them for comfort and ease. A good question to ask when you are making food choices is ‘what would my happiest healthiest body choose to eat?’
It also goes without saying that we all need to add more movement into our lives. As technology and transport improves we tend to move less and less. So look at how you could bring more movement into your life. If you want to start training but don’t know where to start get a personal trainer or go to a fit camp/boot camp style session. Many of my bootcamp clients have taken on the knowledge and step by step support and when on to become health coaches themselves. Do an online program if you have kids and can’t get out to the gym because you have no childcare. Look for the solution that suits you, but also ask yourself what feels like it will be more enjoyable for me. And ok, so it may not feel like complete fun at first, BUT once you get started with exercise you really will start to enjoy it more, because of how it starts to make you feel.
Remember the focus of this comes from a place of self love, and NOT self hatred. You body has likely been crying out for you to take better care of it. So talk to and about your body as if it was the beautiful being that it is. Thank your body for all that it does for you, forgive it for not always responding the way you wanted it to and tell your body you are sorry for the way that you have treated it in the past. This self love stuff can sound a little woo woo but trust me, I’ve tried it and it changes the game, I am finally at a place where I am at far more peace with my body. Yes I still want to make changes and improvements but that comes from a place of progress instead of self hatred. It makes taking care of myself more enjoyable, it makes my life more enjoyable. Yes I eat healthy but I also eat unhealthy foods from time to time too and I don’t hate myself anymore for that. Remember you cannot hate yourself slim, it simply doesn’t work, so try loving yourself instead
Start with doing what you already know you should be doing to get healthier. You already know if it should be starting a regular exercise habit, getting to grips with healthy recipes or making the time to cook things from fresh, to get more sleep, to stop drinking as much alcohol. You already know exactly what you need to do. Now it just comes down to committing to that new habit
Keep it simple and commit to one change at a time
